This episode features an interview with Jane Green and Cameron Cox. Jane Green is a sex worker who is on the Executive Committee of the Scarlet Alliance and Cameron Cox is a sex worker who is involved in a sex worker outreach organisation. They discuss: the links between homophobia and whorephobia, sex work as work, why they are #NotYourRescueProject, Amnesty International’s AGM where different approaches to sex work were debated, and they make the case that decriminalisation is the model that leads to the best outcomes for sex workers.

This time Nick is joined by Graeme Bowman, who is performing in the comedy show ‘Patriarchy: Where Would We Be Without You?’ and is co-founder of Wise Women Will Save the World. He discusses the importance of addressing patriarchy and the role of art in bringing about social change. For more about the comedy show on patriarchy, which will be performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, you can see the blog post, Pozible campaign and Youtube channel for it.

We also play some of Jess Ison’s talk from the Institute for Critical Animal Studies Oceania 2014 conference. This talk looks into links between feminism and concern for animals, analysing writers such as Carol Adams, Breeze Harper and pattrice jones. The talk also covers Carol Adams and transphobia (something we also covered in a discussion we had on Team Earthling podcast), as well as queer and pro-sex worker critiques of second-wave feminism. Advocates for the Nordic Model for sex work argue that this approach does not target sex workers themselves, only their clients. However, Jane Green and Cameron Cox dispute these claims and argue that it is decriminalisation that leads to the best outcomes for sex workers. Jane Green is a sex worker who is on the Executive Committee of the Scarlet Alliance. Cameron Cox is a sex worker who is involved in a sex worker outreach organisation. Beyond the Nordic model and decriminalisation, Jane and Cameron also discuss the “rescue industry”, transphobia, unions for sex workers, and sex work phobia/whorephobia – follow @AnarchaSxworker for more on whorephobia. We also give some updates on Israel/Palestine, which we covered on episodes 62 and 63. On this episode we take aim at FIFA and the human rights abuses associated with the World Cup. We discuss the $11 billion spent on the tournament by the Brazilian government, at the expense of much needed government services. We also mention that thousands of people have been evicted from their homes and sex workers have been pushed out of the city. We play an interview with a mem­ber of the Comité Po­pu­lar da Copa in Sao Paulo, a co­or­di­na­ti­on of groups and individuals against the FIFA World Cup and its negative effects. This interview is thanks to Anarchist Radio Berlin and we encourage people to listen to the entire interview here (we play a shortened version). We also mention that gay players have been encouraged to come out at the World Cup, as well as discussing nationalism and militarism in ice-hockey, pointing out that Nick is so normcore he doesn’t even have to try, and giving shout outs to the Queer Punx and the Angry Hippie.
