This time Nick is joined by Graeme Bowman, who is performing in the comedy show ‘Patriarchy: Where Would We Be Without You?’ and is co-founder of Wise Women Will Save the World. He discusses the importance of addressing patriarchy and the role of art in bringing about social change. For more about the comedy show on patriarchy, which will be performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, you can see the blog post, Pozible campaign and Youtube channel for it.
We also play some of Jess Ison’s talk from the Institute for Critical Animal Studies Oceania 2014 conference. This talk looks into links between feminism and concern for animals, analysing writers such as Carol Adams, Breeze Harper and pattrice jones. The talk also covers Carol Adams and transphobia (something we also covered in a discussion we had on Team Earthling podcast), as well as queer and pro-sex worker critiques of second-wave feminism. You can listen to the rest of this talk on episode 54 or listen to the complete talk here.
Other stuff covered on the episode is: The Smith Street Band, the possibility of Tony Abbott being replaced as Prime Minister, and Beyond Green’s campaigns against repressive metadata laws.
Update: We discuss some feedback on this episode on episode 95.
