We commiserate about the election result and bring you speeches and music from the Climate Emergency XR Snap Rally in Melbourne. We play a speech from Violet (pictured in the small Mixcloud pic above) and music from Steven and Mark. You can listen to our full recording of the event here. You can get active with Extinction Rebellion, The Global General Strike to Save the Planet and The City Roars, an upcoming rally for climate action in Melbourne.

Good to see the Simpsons references still going strong!

We also discuss animal agriculture, veganism and the climate emergency. For more on this you can hear our 172nd episode and ‘Achieving Environmental Liberation Through Animal Liberation’ on Freedom of Species.

Please support our show by giving us nice reviews on iTunesStitcher and Facebook – thanks 🙂

The United Australia Party will win government.

Palmer has this election in the bag but we thought we’d put out this episode anyway.

We’re joined by Nick’s cousin Emil Raji and we discuss the upcoming Australian federal election and how we’ll be voting. We also discuss the Left-shift within the Labor party (compared to the Rudd/Gillard governments), the Centrist-shift by the Greens, the declining popularity of neoliberalism, so many scandals in this election, the biggest lies of the election, Nick’s changing views on the Animal Justice Party, and we very briefly touch on anarchism and voting thanks to the Aotearoa Anarchist Review – if you’d like to hear more on this topic, check out episode 137.

See below for how Nick is voting (for now – we welcome any feedback – please contact us with any suggested changes). Note that this is not how Katie or Emil are voting.

Harley McDonald-Eckersall and Dilan Fernando discuss what you can do to help Palestine, based on conversations they had with Palestinian people on their recent visit to the country. They focus on supporting the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and correcting myths about Palestine. Check out our last episode #226 to hear more about these myths and responses to them from Dilan and Harley.

Also covered regarding Palestine is: recent bombings, the academic article ‘´Etat de si`ege: A dying domesticating colonialism?’ By Ghassan Hage, John Pilger’s documentary Palestine is still the issue, connections between veganism and the BDS movement as both involve a political consumer boycott, the film clip for the song ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count to F**k)’ that highlights more subtle police racism in the USA, and the Palestine Animal League. You can hear Harley and Dilan discuss the Palestine Animal League and animal advocacy under Occupation in Palestine on Freedom of Species.

Finally, Nick has written two articles on the recent coup attempt in Venezuela: ‘Cheerleading for the Coup: An Analysis of Media Coverage of Venezuelan Politics’ and ‘Hoping For More Prayers Rather Than Bombs: A Response to Donald Trump’s Comments on Venezuela’.
