Nick is joined by Kathryn Joy for the whole episode and we discuss Reclaim Australia and the Rally Against Racism counter rallies. Reclaim Australia is an anti-Islamic movement with neo-Nazi links. There is an interview with Ray Grenfell, an anarchist activist and host of RTR92.1FM Indymedia, who discusses his experiences at the Melbourne Rally Against Racism and the importance of directly confronting fascists. Kathryn also discusses the Melbourne rally and Nick discusses his experiences at the Perth Rally Against Racism. We also play a couple of speeches from the Perth rally.

On this episode we play our talk ‘Intersectionality in Practice’, where we discuss our efforts to promote an intersectional approach to animal advocacy with Animal Rights Advocates (ARA). This episode is all about mental health, drawing on Katie’s personal experiences with mental health issues and Nick’s recent mental health first aid course. We dissect arguments against medication for mental health; discuss Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and mental health (you can share our meme on this, pictured above, on Facebook and Twitter); as well as considering how terms like “able-bodied” and “not societally enabled” fit with mental health.

We finish with some recommendations and advice for people with mental health issues, as well as those who want to be allies. These include: seeking help, Mindfulness meditation, doing a mental health first aid course, trying to normalise mental health issues and reduce the stigma, and avoiding ableist language.
