This episode features a talk from Smash IPP, recorded at Kebele Community Co-Op in Bristol. IPP (Imprisonment for Public Protection) sentences ‘were introduced in 2005 and abolished in 2012, but not retrospectively, meaning that there are almost 4,000 people still locked up indefinitely in England and Wales’. The talk covers IPPs, ableism, mental health and prison abolition.

For more on prisons, prison abolition and anti-prison activism, the speakers recommend people check out: iwoc.iww.org.uk; prisonabolition.org; cape-campaign.org and criticalresistance.org. You can also hear us discuss prisons (amongst other issues) on episode 159; mental health on episode 92 and ableism on episode 131.

Nick is joined by Jordan Halliday and Jeremy Parkin from Which Side Vegan Anarchist podcast for almost the entire episode. We discuss: Jordan’s time in prison, the importance of prisoner support, anarchism and voting, the dietary focus of the way veganism is promoted by many animal organisations, scepticism and rationality, self-righteous health vegans, Mormonism and atheism. We encourage you to listen to Nick on Which Side podcast and check out their other episodes too!
