We’re joined by Federico Fuentes, a writer for Green Left Weekly, who gives a first-hand account of the current situation in Venezuela.

Federico at a community assembly in Santa Teresa in San Fernando de Apure. We have a strong focus on this grassroots democracy at the community level in this episode.

On this episode we look into the recent violent attacks in Paris, including the context and the reactions. We discuss: selective grief and outrage, disproportionate media coverage of violent acts, the implications for migrants, and links between the response to the Paris attacks and the response to the 9/11 attacks.

We play two interviews. The first one is Karun Cowper’s interview with US Iraq war veteran Vincent Emanuele on the historical context behind the Paris attacks. We also play Alex Whisson and Ray Grenfell’s interview with Muslim activist Marziya Mohammedali on the Islamophobic backlash following the attacks.
