On this episode we’re joined by Sally Goldner, host of Out of the Pan radio show, to discuss queer issues and the queer movement post same-sex marriage in Australia.

More specifically, Sally covers: the importance of addressing transphobia and biphobia; intersections between queer issues and sex work; the queerphobia of Australia’s new Prime Minister, Scott Morrison; and trans representation in movies (in light of the recent controversy of Scarlett Johansson playing a transgender character).

For more on this issue of trans representation, check out the Q and A of the talk ‘Transgender Awareness and The Law’ by Cassie Giudice and the Out of the Pan episode ‘Scarlett covering transphobes working together’. This episode of Out of the Pan also has further analysis from Sally on queer issues and the queer movement post same-sex marriage in Australia.

Please spread the word about our show, for example by sharing our episodes on Facebook and Twitter, so they reach more people. Our most recent episode is always our pinned post at the top. Thanks 🙂

On this episode we challenge the Australian government’s claim that tax cuts for business will lead to higher wages for workers. We also discuss concerning government influence over the ABC on this issue (see the Guardian and Media Watch for more on this) and which sector Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull serves, demonstrated by his reversal on the Banking Royal Commission once the banks requested it themselves.

We also discuss the Australian Unions campaign to Change the Rules and bring fairness back.

The episode features a great video from Juice Media on the proposed charity gag law by the Australian government, which we discussed on episode 201. Please watch and share the video here and it is also embedded below. We also encourage people to contact the Labor party to urge them to reject these laws.

Finally, you can hear Nick interviewed on the ABC discussing his article on dogs being considered property under the law. You can hear Nick at 23:20 into this episode of Evenings with Melanie Tait.

Thanks to everyone who put us well over our Crowd Funding target! We’ll be buying a new microphone to improve the sound quality of the show and we’ll also do another video podcast with our new equipment to thank everyone for their support 🙂

Thanks to Adam from VeganSci for helping out with the recordings this year!

We start off the episode by discussing civil liberties concerns about new counter-terrorism laws in Australia. Also covered throughout the episode is: the SBS show ‘Sex, War, Robots’; join us at the Animal Activists Forum; and updates on episode 173, which covered the Grenfell Tower fire, economic inequality under neoliberalism and the labelling of terrorism.

For more information on the topic of “eco-terrorism”, see the links in Nick’s PowerPoint above and we also recommend our interview with Will Potter from episode 98.

Out of all the bizarre conspiracy theories out there, the theory that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is comedian Bill Hicks, is definitely one of them.
