We weigh into the debate on cancel culture, including discussing the links adrienne maree brown makes between cancel culture and prisons, with the common factor being “disposable people”. We also discuss getting put “in the bin” for promoting the friendlyjordies documentary ‘Blood Water: the war for Australia’s water’.

We look beyond individual ethics to explore the role of various positions in society and how these different positions shape the worldview of those who hold them. We mainly focus on the role of landlords, or as they are now known in Victoria, “rental providers”. We also cover the roles of the police, military and the employing class.

We finish the show by discussing our recent trip to Queensland and Trump supporters, cancel culture, Monopoly and the catchphrase for the pandemic.

This show features philosopher Paul-Mikhail Catapang Podosky on the free speech and cancel culture debate.

It covers the (in)famous ‘A Letter on Justice and Open Debate’ published in Harper’s Magazine and the lesser known ‘A More Specific Letter on Justice and Open Debate’.

We also cover some common misunderstandings of free speech (supporting free speech doesn’t mean actively platforming the most harmful speech above all others!), the way in which discrimination can be subtly embedded into language and the documentary 13th.

For more on similar issues around cancel culture, check out our 238th episode ‘In Defence of Virtue Signalling – Responding to Common Criticisms of the Left’.

You can also listen to Paul on Freedom of Species: ‘Moving Beyond Killing Animals “Humanely”.’
