This episode features journalist, trade unionist and Indigenous rights activist Celeste Liddle discussing Invasion Day. This talk was recorded at the 2017 Invasion Day protest in Melbourne. You can listen to audio of this entire event here. On this episode we have some back-up from scholarly sources, as well as from Adam Cardilini, who is a scientist, animal advocate and co-host of Vegansci podcast. He discusses some listener feedback on episode 156, covering topics such as new animal-free alternatives, capitalism, effective animal activism, the methodology of the former vegetarian and vegan study by Faunalytics, veganism and B12, using a Fox News level of objectivity and finding the magical vegan dumpling.

We also have a brief discussion about the Invasion Day rally in Melbourne. You can listen to our audio recordings of all of the talks from that event here.

In the second half of the episode we ask Adam some further questions about his talk ‘Diversity in animal activism: Preparing for impact opportunities for the next 10 years’, which we played on episode 156. This time Nick is joined by Vanessa, a forensic psychology doctoral student and one of the hosts of VeganSci podcast. We discuss animal activism and Vanessa’s experiences with working in prisons. Vanessa also raises the issue of prisoners working in slaughterhouses as part of their rehabilitation. This is despite the psychological harm that slaughterhouse work does to the workers and the communities in which they live. We also discuss a recent silent protest against the dairy industry that we were both involved in.
