On episode 281 Nick and Lottie’s I Think You Should Leave addiction is enabled and encouraged by Kevin, Jared and James from That’s a Chunky podcast (an ITYSL show). We focus on representations of gender in ITYSL, with the show “punching sideways” on gender – challenging the behaviour of other men. We discuss how gender is portrayed in the sketches: Instagram, Game Night, Jamie Taco and Coffin Flop. Also covered is neurodiversity, introversion and empathy amongst ITYSL fans. We had two ITYSL discussions with That’s a Chunky and you can check out the other discussion, covering gender and the politics of the ITYSL fandom, plus Australian versus US comedy and references, on their show. Also make sure you follow/subscribe to their show on your favourite podcast app, plus follow James on Twitter @ITYSL_memes!

This episode is wrapped up by briefly indulging Nick’s Andy Kaufman obsession, focusing on connections between Kaufman and ITYSL. For more on this, Kevin recommends the video The Other Tim From Allentown as an example of Kaufman-esque comedy from Tim Robinson and the book Andy Kaufman Revealed! Best Friend Tells All by Bob Zmuda and Matthew Scott Hanson. You can also check out a Twitter thread with ITYSL fans discussing the issue.

For those who found us through That’s a Chunky, if you want to check out some of our other episodes beyond our last three that have all been ITYSL-focused, an episode that is in a somewhat similar Q-Zone is Episode 267: Bo Burnham, Performance and Content Creation – ‘Part of Me Needs You’, as there are also themes regarding art, social commentary in comedy etc on that show.
